Yeah, that was me. . . I figured because it was the subject of multiple threads it would have auto-percolated over to JIRA, but Mike H told me it doesn't work that way.  So, lesson learned: if there's an annoying ass bug in Labs, make sure to Jira it up so it gets fixed (or, fix it yourself and contribute back)

Am I correctly interpreting https://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ETHREEOH-1238 to mean that the fix for this has been completed, but that it did not make it in time for the 3.0Final release, and is instead slated for 3.1?

Yes you are correct that the fix missed 3 Stable and was targeted for the 3.1 / 3E release.
And If you dig a little more you can see that it was put onto HEAD last week.

am I right or does this mean theres no way to do this than scamping around in the source code?

and by the way: where may i find a roadmap or release date for the 3.1?

V3.1 is being merged to HEAD at the time of writing, so you can just grab a nightly build in a few days once we've sorted out all the merge issues, or grab HEAD from SVN yourself.

It was posted above that this was going to be fixed in 3.1/3e.  I notice 3e is out for the nightly build of the labs…is this issue fixed in that 3e nightly build, or should I wait for a newer nightly build?

I'm new to Alfresco, so I was wondering if there was an easy way to update without losing all of my current configuration to the nightly build (I'm on Lab 3 final right now)?  I.E. just drop in an new WAR or JAR file that will not overwrite my configuration settings.

Thanks,
Andrew

I'm new, too, but I don't think such a "patch upgrade" process exists.  I think the recommended upgrade path is:

1) backup everything in alf_data
2) backup everything in your database,
3) blow away old installation
4) install new installation,
5) restore alf_data,
6) restore db

Thanks for the response…I actually just grabbed the alfresco-web-client.jar file from the alfresco-labs-wcm-3e dev.zip located on the nightly builds site.

I then replaced it in my Alfresco installation and that fixed the problem.  No need to fully upgrade.

That process is ok as long as no database or other patches have happened that the update relies upon.

tvaughan77 pretty much has the official upgrade process there. As developers we just do incremental code updates and hope the patches do their job, but then our data is expendable.
