Some questions about Alfresco

Hello,

I`m currently evaluating Alfresco Labs 3 Final for my company.
I`ve got a bunch question and start right away.

1) Is there a size limation for a file upload?
2) Is it possible to get automatic tag suggestions? (I don`t think this 'feature' is available out-of-the-box)
3) Is it possible to use permissions on a document level (means: A user has access to a space, but is not allowed to view the contained document)?
4) Is it possible to hide documents in a space and then publish them? (means: I want to create a document and save it, but no user should be able to see this document UNTIL it is being published)
5) Is there a special functionality print Wikis (the ones that are stored within Alfresco)?

Best regards,
moe

Not out of the box - but you can implement one - see this forum for details.    There's also the ability to set a quota for each user.
2) Is it possible to get automatic tag suggestions? (I don`t think this 'feature' is available out-of-the-box)
Not out of the box.   But you could for example create your own upload script that does whatever your business logic requires.   Or you could have a rule that fires on new content.
3) Is it possible to use permissions on a document level (means: A user has access to a space, but is not allowed to view the contained document)?
Yes.
4) Is it possible to hide documents in a space and then publish them? (means: I want to create a document and save it, but no user should be able to see this document UNTIL it is being published)
Yes, just alter the permissions.
5) Is there a special functionality print Wikis (the ones that are stored within Alfresco)?
Not that I know of, there may well be.

Hello mrogers,
thank you for your quick response.
One more thing:

1) Is there a size limation for a file upload?
There's also the ability to set a quota for each user.
How can this be done? Out-of-the-box?

Best regards,
moe

I found it.
It can be defined while creating a user (of course, it is also possible to modify a user and change the quota`s value).

I've asked this elsewhere but got no response so I'll try here as it is an active thread. With user quotas there is no warning when a user is reaching their quota level using CIFS.

If a user uploads a file through a regular windows interface (using CIFS), and that file takes them over their quota - no warning is displayed. The file merely exists as a file of size 0 kb.

Does anyone know if it is possible to have warnings show up as with DiskQuotas in Windows?

 Don't know anything about the internals of CIFS but I'd be very surprised if someone could get windows to display a message about nearing or exceeding an Alfresco quota.    It may be possible to fake some sort of generic "filesystem out of space" error but we'll need someone who undertands the internals of the CIFS protocol to answer in detail.

Just read up on the internals of CIFS and there is a likely looking error status ERRDOS / ERRQuota.

So it may well be possible.

If Alfresco does not behave appropriatly with regard to quotas then please raise your issue in JIRA.

Are you suggesting that the intended behaviour is for it to display out of space messages, or are you suggesting that I make a suggestion that this is how it should work?
