Some missing features in Android App

Hi everyone!
We are developing an Android application based on official Alfreaco application for Android

and I was wondering if following functions are already existing in current version of

android application or are going to be added in future:

1. In current version I could not find streaming function for video and audio files.
2. No preview is existing for images and PDF files and as soon as you click on file it just

shows you an icon of file type.
3. Synchronization mechanism which keeps files updated to the last version in mobile side

(Maybe using MD5 hash check-sum).
4. Camera upload feature which automatically uploads taken photos and videos to the server.
5. It is impossible to add two files with same name and update existing file to a newer

version. The application will add an auto incremented number to the end of the file and

uploads it as a new version.

I will be glad if anyone have any information about these features.
Regards.

Aloah,

1. There's no streaming function because mostly there's no streaming API available from Alfresco Server.
2. There's 2 cases here : Preview & Thumbnails. Thumbnails are generally available by default on Alfresco (mostly for images) and if you are able to see images on details page of a document generally it can be displayed inside the mobile application. At the opposite preview are not available. The mobile application doesnt embed any previewer of any kind. It relies on 3rd party application to open the document previously downloaded.
3. There's already a sync mechanism available. Any favorited document will be kept in sync between your device and the repository.
4. This feature is not available.
5. It's possible to update a document directly from the details page of the document. If you upload a file with an existing fileName the import will change the name with a suffix.

In term of next version
1. Not planned. Feel free to open a jira improvement ticket in issues.alfresco.com on project "Mobile"
2. We are working to preview PDF document directly from inside the app.
3. Already available.
4. Not planned. Feel free to open a jira improvement ticket in issues.alfresco.com on project "Mobile"
5. It's planned not necessarily for the next coming version.

Hope it helps.

Hi - this is one example of feature difference between iOS and Android. Whereas Apple have added a number of document preview capabilities to iOS, Google have chosen not to do this for Android.

We're hoping google change their mind, but until they do we will defer to third party apps to preview and edit documents.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi,

This answer is still up to date (with the latest android app) ?
Is there a third tool we can install to preview documents on android devices ?

Thanks

Yes, it's still the case that Android does not have any built-in preview capability for most types of documents. We cannot recommend a particular third party app, but there are several options on the Play Store. Most of them offer at least basic functionality for free, so you can test compatibility with your document types.

Thanks,
Mike

A third party app can add PDF view capabilities to my Android but no preview capabilities to your app.

As far as I understand the missing feature discussed here is a part of the document detail page of the app. The page correctly shows smaller versions of images but in case of office documents and PDFs it only shows an icon indicating the document type.

Please tell me if I'm wrong. I wouldn't mind to install a third party app to enjoy a real preview of PDFs inside the Alfresco App.

Great and clean app but no preview of the docs. Any update or recommended third app that works for the previews in android? Thanks!
