Separate datasource for history and runtime?

Is it possible to provide separate data sources for the history and the runtime data?  I can't find anything in the docs or by searvhing the forum

No, that's not possible at this moment.

It would also have an impact on performance, because you will need to use XA transactions.

Can you explain why it is a shame? You can always create a separate datasource for e.g. reading the history table for other purposes

as a workaround, you would work with 2 separate ProcessEngines instead.  And use one for the runtime data and the other one for the history.

It would only work for reading, not for writing I know realize.
