Saving new documents with Microsoft Office and the SharePoint library

Not applicable
Hi,

I have Alfresco 5.0.c with Share, Solr4 and the VTI library installed on my Linux NAS. All seems to be working fine, ie,
- Tomcat starting without errors
- I can access Share via SSL without problems
- I can load documents into Microsoft Office via the SharePoint library without problems
- I can save opened documents via Microsoft Office

I am however running into problems when I try to save a new document via Microsoft Office or when I try to browse the document library.

How do I get this to work?

Thanks
Peter

Hello,

A couple of things here.

Make sure you have the appropriate membership level within your site to be able to add or modify files.

When creating a new document or browsing within a site via office (word, etc)

I usually go to File, Open and in the fillable bar that is labeled File Name I put

https://fqdn.com:7070/alfresco

This will then contact your alfresco server and you can then browse from there. The same is applied when creating a new and wanting to save the file to alfresco.

The other option is to just map a drive.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your note. I just had a look at both with the below results.
- The account I am using has Manager status for the site and can upload new documents via share. Is there anything else I would need to look at?
- When trying to open "https://fqdn.com:7070/alfresco" I am getting an "The address is not valid" error message? (spelling is definitely correct as I just used the URL with which I could open the existing document and deleted the document specific part)

Any thoughts on the above?

Thanks a lot!

Hello Peter,

Try mapping a network drive on your windows client and then do a file…open and navigate to your mapped drive. See if that works.

To map a drive use the following path

\\fdqn@SSL\DavWWWRoot\Alfresco

OR

https://fdqn/alfresco/webdav

Hi,

Thanks again for coming back on this. I am using MS Office for Mac 2011. Using the https version above I could actually map the network drive and open, edit, save and save as/create documents on that drive.

As I would like to use Alfresco with Office for iPad as well, do you have any idea why the above works and the SharePoint module does not? Or if there is any other way besides the SharePoint module for accessing Alfresco via Office for iPad?

Thanks again!

Peter

In our own environment we have had users using mac (not sure why lol) anyway. Are you using the full version of word 2011 or the student version? The student version does not have the option to use the sharepoint protocol.

🙂 I am using the full version. And I am able to open and save documents via the sharepoint protocol. But I cannot create new documents/save under a different name and I cannot browse the document library.

Thanks
Peter
