Rendition/Transformation service in Alfresco

Dear Alfresco user community - Can you share more insights about Rendition services in Alfresco. I appreciate if some one can talk about how it works internally and how it get integrated to the rendition service. For e.g in Documentum DMI_Queue_Item table is used as an interface for rendition and other services.

Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

There's currently three "rendition" services within alfresco.        

The first is the transformation service which will transform documents between different mime types.
The second is the thumbnail service which will transform a document between different resolution thumbnails.
And there is a web forms rendition service.

You will find details in the developer wiki on all these.
