Hello
I have been asked to find a software package that can be used for document management. The primary requirement is versioning, and I see how this works in Alfresco. My question is, is there any way to get the version number to automatically appear as part of a document?
Thanks

Maybe there is some code I can use in the documents themselves to pull this from the metadata?

Alfresco is good at storing and versioning documents.  If you need to modify whatever file you store, as long as you have ability to programatically manipulate it, you can make it work.

So if you need to add Version information to Word, and you have ability (perhaps POI library can do this?) to add information to the word file, then you are good.   Or if you have a Word template that shows a piece of metadata stored in Word format somewhere, and you have a library that sets the metadata programatically (probably easier to find), then once again you can do this.

We'd be interested in doing this also.

Have you found anything?

We're looking for something similar - like printing documents with a footer that shows the version number & last modification date.  Any advice?

thanks
