Postgres and openoffice

Hi,
my qorking configuration is tomcat+alfresco 3+postgres 8.1.3.
The question is?
Do i really need to have openoffice installed on my computer?
I mean, is it just used by the default database or for something else?

Open office is used for content transformation of office documents.   If you don't want the office transformers then you don't need open office.
