Permissions at folder level

I would like to create a web project with several users but only give them permissions to access specific folders. With the ECM you can create sub-spaces and that's basically what I would need to mimic. Is it possible?

No its not.   Permissions are for the whole web project.

There may be other ways of achieving this such as configuring multiple web projects each with with different permissions and then layer them.
