Passthru auth. - how are the Alfresco accounts created?

Hello

Please, is there any mention in the docs on how does Alfresco determine properties/attributes for the user accounts it creates when Windows domain users connect for the first time? (I.e. how can Alfresco tell COMPANY\john.doe should be ADMINISTRATOR or CONTRIBUTOR within Alfresco.)
I went through authentication (CIFS) documentation/Wiki but this is not clear to me.

well, actually this is what is also in the wiki, and no mention about how the users are created
