OpenOffice problems on Windows 2000

I'm experiencing what I believe is an soffice crash on document transformations. I've done a search and can't find any similar topics. If anyone can help steer me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Environment:
Windows 2000 server
Alfresco Labs 3.1 Final
JDK 1.6_014
OpenOffice 3.1

I've tried both the OpenOffice packaged with the Windows Labs Final installer as well as a separate OpenOffice installation with modification of the ooo.exe path. soffice.exe and soffice.bin both start and run just fine until I either open a document library with approx 50-60 files or attempt to preview a large doc. At that point, I see soffice CPU & Memory usage increase for about a minute and then both processes die.

Shortly thereafter, the openoffice connection error pops up in the Alfresco terminal.

Thanks for any help!

Are you able to open those documents using the OpenOffice UI on the server?

Yes I'm able to open the docs via the OpenOffice UI. Granted, it takes some time to finish opening as some of them are quite large; however, they do open and are displayed without any problems.

Not sure then - sounds like a classic overloading of CPU/memory problem which exposes a bug somewhere in either Windows or OpenOffice.

Windows 2000 is pretty old (and no longer supported I believe) and reason why you're not able to use 2003 or 2008 server?
