Ooops! recover 'Delete Listed Items'?

If I delete content in Alfresco, I can recover it by going to 'Manage Deleted Items'.  But what if I go into 'Manage Deleted Items' and select 'Delete Listed Items'.  How can I recover these items?

SImple answer: You cannot unless you have made a backup of your Database and (depending on your content store cleanup behaviour) your content store. There is no way to recover the lost metadata without a database backup. Since this will completely reset your application, for all intents and purposes, such data is lost unless you set up a separate server to restore the backup and transfer the data to your production environment.

Yes, I see.  So that is the point of no return, unless you back up the data.
