Online edit of office documents uses wrong extension

Hello everyone!

I am currently running Alfresco 4.2.e on an Ubuntu box and I am running into a bit of a problem. There are a few files, that when anyone tries to edit online, the prompt that comes up stating that "some files may harm your computer…" has the wrong file extension in the "File name" portion. As in, instead of having "File name: Document.xlsx" it has File name: "Document.xlsx5" and because of that Excel is unable to open file since it doesn't know what an *.xlsx5 file is. I have attempted to upload the files again but it does the same thing each time. Any ideas as to what may be causing this issue and what I can do to solve it?

I have a similar problem, but with no extension at all. When attempting to edit inline a MSOffice document, the url point to a file without extension, so office can't decide how to open it. It doesn't happen with all the document, but i still haven't found the common denominator that would be the source of the bug…

The source of the bug is office relying upon the filename to determine the probable mimetype!

As to what else is going on I suggest you look at the connnection with a tool like wireshark.

Thank you for your reply but I am still unable to track down the issue. I have noticed that other browsers do not experience it, I only see it come up in Chrome. Any other suggestions?
