Office plugin doesn't run actions

Hi,

When using the office plugin with Alfresco, if the current document is saved into a space which has rules defined on it, then those rules don't appear to get run. If a document is created using the Web UI, or using CIFS, then the rules on the space are correctly executed.

Is this expected behaviour? I was under the impression that space rules would be run regardless of the method used to insert content into the space. If it's a bug, then I can try to investigate some more.

Platform: Alfresco 2.2, Office 2003.

Thanks,
Sam.

Are you using WebDAV or CIFS with the Office add-in? (i.e. did you configure a CIFS path at all - if not, you're using WebDAV).

The Office add-ins will use CIFS if you've configured it. The add-in itself doesn't "touch" the document - it calls Office APIs to tell the application exactly where to save.

Thanks,
Mike

I had both configured, so presumably it's using CIFS. I tried to test it again today (by only configuring one at a time, and testing it on each), but for some reason CIFS has completely stopped working (it was working Friday) for me so wasn't able to. I'll try again once I've figured out what has broken in CIFS.

Okay, we had a play around with MS Office again yesterday (without the plugin), and when a document is saved directly from Word  into a space in a CIFS share, rules on that space aren't being run. If the document is saved to the desktop first and then copied into the share, then the rules are run as expected.

The only thing that springs to mind, is that Office may be keeping the document locked, though I wouldn't have thought that would have an effect on doing something like adding a category to a document (which is what we were trying to do yesterday). The customer is running Office XP on Windows 2000. Alfresco is 2.2.

Am I right in thinking that this all works okay for everyone else? If this is the case, what can I look at to figure out what's going wrong in our two Alfresco installations?

Thanks,
Sam.

Any comments on this, or should I just raise a bug?

It only affects Microsoft Word - I've since tried it with OpenOffice, Textpad and Microsoft Excel and space rules are executed correctly in these latter cases. For Microsoft Word, rules aren't executed. I can duplicate it on Alfresco 2.1, 2.2 and 3.0 simply by mounting a CIFS share, and using 'Save As' in Word to save a file. A rule to add a category to documents added into the space does not execute. I have tried the rule with 'Run in background' ticked as well, and it doesn't make a difference.
