numeric search with wildcards

I need to modify alfresco for search numeric types with wildcards (*) and not only between ranges.   
Perhaps can we made a new number type of field, so can work as text but when sort, it sorts by "casted" numeric value.

Numeric data is tokenisedin an encoded for in the index. This is so numeric ordering and range queries work as exected.

Wild card queries are not supported.

What is your use case? Why do range queries not solve the issue?

You could define the attribute to be untokenised. This would allow some wild card search, would break range queries, but may still not support what you want.
