Nicer PDF transformation

Has anyone come across a PDF transformation library that provides for adding additional things such as page numbering, headers / footers, table of contents etc to converted HTML documents? My searching so far has come up blank, and I'm sure it's not a unique requirement at all.

I'm also looking for this, since the current PDF to text converter has problems with PDF's generated by MikTeX. The only result I get is a long sequence of meaningless numbers and letters.

Re-reading my post it's a bit ambiguous, I'm actually going from HTML -> PDF. Most wysiwyg text input via web-based clients is done using HMTL, which makes it the obvious choice as the source format for transforming.

I've come across http://www.re.be/css2xslfo/ which is looking like a potential saviour.

I am also interested in this - mostly in better ms-word to PDF conversion. The OpenOffice generated PDFs are not much nice in my case. However I suspect there is no easy solution how to integrate any other 3rd-party transformer instead of OO.

Alfresco is very open with respect to content transformation - you're not limited to the transformers we provide out-of-the-box (including the OpenOffice based ones).  Implementing your own content transformers (which can leverage any external library / product you like) is described at http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Content_Transformations, and there are examples of custom content transformers on the Alfresco forge (http://forge.alfresco.com/).

And of course being open source you could always look at how we implemented the content transformers that are provided out-of-the-box, and copy / adapt them as needed!
