Share is a team collaboration platform built on top of Alfresco which has a solid enterprise content management repository (incl. document management).

If you want to give it to the users, you might have to provide Share as user interface, with an advantage of underlying document repository.

Alfresco Share is a great product to go in the route of building document management system.

As a first step, I would come up with requirements of "your" document management system. Then, there will be more clarity on what you could implement and you can find out what can be done and what cannot be done and what is complex and what is easy and at last you can prioritize and build your roadmap to build your document management system using Alfresco and Alfresco Share.

All the best!

Hope it was helpful…

Thanks a lot for your kindly post.
Yeah I knew Its Share will do for my job.But problem Im having is didnt see any facilities like converting docs in to pdf like in Alfresco. Do you know how to do it in share.
Basically what i have to do is to save some pdf files in to the data base and retrieve it using a search. Wish to have a small brief from you.

Since Share runs with a background of alfresco with it, almost everything can be done in share also.

If you want to do any conversion like doc to PDF OR thumbnail creation of image or video; OR moving files; applying aspects; etc., can be achieved by rules wizard in alfresco.

Sometimes you will have to create an action or you could use existing actions and create rules. When you create rules apply it to Sites Space or document library of the sites and apply it to subspaces.

Also once you have the conversion done, the files are stored in the file system and data in the database. Search would work as you expected.

Hope this helps!

Yes, you can use the Rules of Alfresco to apply in SHARE also. Basically, Share's documentLibrary is just another space of Alfresco under Company Home–>Sites–><sitename>–>documentLibrary. So, if you want to apply a rule to all the Sites, you apply to "Sites" folder and apply to children folders also.

Yes, that apart - obviously, in order to get there, first step is to create a site.

If I understand it right,
1) do you want to create these PDF documents in Alfresco OR
2) are you asking if you can upload PDF document?

Responses -
1) I know there is Doc to PDF conversion available in Alfresco, but I am not sure from other formats to PDF.
2) Yes, it is possible.

Yes I know there is an option to insert the pdf or like formats to Alfresco.
Actually what I need to do is to keep a single pdf files for a relevant person which consists of several documents. Since a person might have few documents which are scanned documents. Can I create a rule like thing to make those 2 or 3 documents in to one pdf file ? So that I can retrieve the pdf file using that persons ID or like. ? Hope you understand my question ?
