modeling a process loop back

What is the best way to model looping back to a previous activity?  I found some online examples showing the sequence back to a previous activity originating from a intermediate event (none).  The Designer version I have (5.7.1) doesn't feature the none type intermediate event.

I have a simple test to determine whether the flow loops back or moves forward.

You can do this by only using a sequence flow.
So if you have an exclusive gateway you can decide to go back to a previous activity or go to the next.
