Hello,

For a project at my school we are looking into Alfresco to investigate how it can be used in a specific branche. A part of the investigation is a prototype of Alfresco configured for this branche ( it's further not of any importance which branche, it's just an example ) But one very important thing we need is the use of metadata which has to be added to each uploaded document in the document library or one of its subfolders and it must be mandatory

Can anyone tell me how to define a specific metadata set and how to attach this to the document library, i have a hard time finding how to make this work.

Example of some metadata fields:

Case
Client
Author
Creation date
Lawyer
Document type

I hope somebody has an answer for me before the end of this weekend.

Kind regards Bert

Hello Jeff,

I'm trying to implement your example but there is no extension directory in $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/alfresco/WEBINF/
classes/alfresco/extension.

When I create this folder and put both the xml files in this directory and restart TomCat Alfresco Explorer isn't starting and I'm not able to login to Alfresco Share. When I delete the directory and restart Tomcat everything is working fine.

I use Alfresco on Windows 2008 R2

Do you have any idea what this can be ?

Kind regards,

Bert

Without seeing a log file with an exception, I cannot even make an educated guess. Is anything showing up in the log? If so, please add it here (wrap it in a code tag so it formats nicely).

Hello Jeff,

This all what is mentioned in the application used for staring the TomCat server.

Restarting Tomcat Server…
Exit code: 1
Stdout:

Stderr:

Exit code: 1
Stdout:

Stderr:

So i've no clue because there is no error. And what about the fact that there is no extension directory in the folder you mention in your tutorial ? By the way, there is an extension folder in $TOMCAT_HOME/shared/classes/alfresco/

I hope i'll be able to fix this because the researche paper we are writing is due next thursday.

Already thanks for your quick responses.

Kind regards,

Bert

Hello Jeff,

I finally got it working with the help of another example along with your tutorial. I must say, it's really complex in my opinion. We did this also for a case in Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 and that also wasn't out of the box but less complex. On the other hand I've to admit that in Alfresco there is a lot customizable. I only hope that make it easier to configure in the future from within the webinterface.

Kind regards,

Bert

Glad you got it working. Our Enterprise Edition improves on the situation somewhat because it includes JMX which means some of the subsystems can be configured from within the user interface without requiring a restart of the server. Community Edition users are stuck in XML editing land for now.
