Hello there
I am new to Alfresco and I am trying to understand how could it possibly fit to the requirements I have for a content management system.

1. Does Alfresco support customised content types and metadata?
2. Can you search on customised metadata?
3. Can you create reports on metadata (I.e give me all documents by author John Smith)
4. I have seen that it provides workflow. However is there a concept of expired content? Is it possible to send an email to the author when the content has expired?
5. Where do you store the content? file system or database?
Kind regards
Lilly

Hi,

Thanks for evaluating Alfresco.  Here's some answers to your questions:

1. Yes - see http://www.alfresco.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=79 for details.
2. Yes - it's possible to specify which meta-data properties are indexed and how they're indexed - refer to the above for details.
3. Yes - there's a search component that allows you to query on metadata, content, location, category etc
4. Content expiration is not provided out-of-the-box.  It's something we plan to add.  However, it could be added with some custom development.
5. Metadata is held in the DB, Content in the filesystem - see http://www.alfresco.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=273 for more details.

Hi,

In the same vein, what content lifecycle does support Alfresco support? Is there support for future publishing dates etc.? Is this present in the enterprise version?

Best regards,
