Manual instal on Tomcat 6 / Linux - extensions question

Hi,

After running into some RMI problems trying to deploy content from Alfresco to a Server Receiver on Ubuntu 8.04 / Tomcat 5 using WCM Community Edition 2.1.0, I tried manually installing on Tomcat 6.

Alfresco starts up fine, but in order to get WCM working, I had to put the bootstrap file in an unexpected place.

When building Alfresco using alfresco-community-tomcat-2.1.0.tar.gz, the WCM bootstrap file is moved to

/opt/alfresco/tomcat/shared/classes/alfresco/extension/wcm-bootstrap-context.xml

However when deploying in Tomcat 6 using alfresco-community-war-2.1.0.tar.gz and alfresco-community-wcm-2.1.0.tar.gz, that had no effect, and I had to move it to

/opt/alfresco/tomcat/webapps/alfresco/WEB-INF/classes/alfresco/extension/wcm-bootstrap-context.xml

Is there something I should do in order for Alfresco to pick up extensions in the original directory? There's dozens of XML files in there - I'm suspecting that they're not being picked up by Alfresco.

That's exactly what I did - the first time I built an Alfresco install (using alfresco-community-tomcat which deploys Tomcat 5) I expanded the WCM bundle, moved the bootstrap file to the location you mentioned, and it worked when I restarted Alfresco. I could see the Web Forms under Data Dictionary, etc.

When I manually installed Alfresco & WCM on Tomcat 6, moving the bootstrap to that location had no effect - it was never detected on restart and nothing was logged. I had to move the bootstrap file to the second location I mentioned in my post.

I wonder if it's simply a difference between Tomcat 5 and Tomcat 6.

Actually, it is due to changes in Tomcat 6. Please see the wiki article here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Install_Tomcat6

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Mike  - I've since parked those VMs and gone ahead and installed Labs 3b instead. Back on Tomcat 5. Took me a while to sort out the PermGen Space errors on Ubuntu, but I've got over that hump.

Might try installing Labs 3b directly onto Tomcat 6 as my challenge Smiley Happy
