I have experienced this problem 3 times and I need to get resolution otherwise I am seriously fustrated because all my efforts are reduced to zero. I installed the community version of Alfresco 4.0.d in Ubuntu Linux 11.10 64bit as a vmware virtual machine and the host machine is Ubuntu Linux 11.10. The installation was working and I finished customisation. Now I was uploading documents and all of sudden I get an login error message "The remote server may be unavailable or your authentication details have not been recognized". The remote server is available

I reinstalled a new installation and everything worked fine and the same problem reappeared after I have made a lot of customisations. Currently alfresco explorer is not working even though tomcat is working and postgresql. Alfresco share is giving the login error mentioned above. Alfresco web content quickstart is working fine but because I cannot login the I cannot implement any changes. I read an advisory in the forum saying this problem is caused by passwords who have special characters that was why in the last installation I used basic admin password but I still have the same problem.

You need to find why your server is not starting.

Normally on a VM its Tomcat's lock file remaining after restarting.  Or trying to run with too small RAM.

All these servers were running without any problem? I read another advisory say I should remove the number on the Catalina.pid and I did that but I still have the same problem. Where can I find tomcat lock file.

Thanks.

Currently alfresco explorer is not working
You need to look in alfresco's log file which will contain details of why alfresco is not running.

I looked at the alfresco logs and there seems to be no problem. But what I found in catalina logs seems to suggest memory leak within alfresco and share. Now I cannot proceed because I tried Yesterday to install a new installation and it is working fine but I know all of a sudden it will stop working and all the work done will be wasted. This has fustrated progress on this project because we do not know what is causing this alfresco problem. If you trace in the forums this problem seems to a problem with previous versions of Alfresco as well and it has not been resolved but has been ignored.

Anyone who can help to fix this problem!!
