ldap cifs Installation

What is CIFS server used for in Alfresco.
I am configuring LDAP server with alfresco and it gives cifs authentication error.
Is it ok if i ignore this configuration??
What it helps in basically?

CIFS is the protocol to behave like a windows (smb) share; like \\[AlfrescoServer]\Alfesco. You can map network drives to it, for example.

If you dont need this interface and your alfresco starts up ok, you should be fine. If you do LDAP authentication, CIFS authentication requires some extra work.
