JCR data loader

Good day,

I am quite new to Alfresco (currently use 3.2 ent.).
As read a number of articles and forum threads, found that JCR based code work faster in terms of files uploading to Alfresco.
But, what would you suggest me to use as a call point for JCR code? CRON task, workflow event?
Whats the better way to go with JCR?

I also wonder if the JCR is really the way to go.
