The site activities RSS feed requires HTTP authentication. I didn't think that the Share RSS dashlet understood how to deal with feeds that require authentication. Simply adding the RSS URL doesn't work for me.
A search in JIRA for "RSS dashlet authentication" suggests that the RSS dashlet should be able to handle HTTP auth, and there is a doc for setting it up:
