Integrate Outlook calender to Alfresco

Hi,

I am a newbie on the Alfresco front and am trying to configure and customize Alfresco to my needs by going through the forums and help topics, which were really helpful.

To make this system fully compatible for my need I have a requirement that my Outlook calender should be visible in Alfresco and should be editable from both the sides.

I have gone through a lot of documentation and the forms search, however could not find a direct solution for this. There are some topics on the web like "http://www.packtpub.com/article/collaboration-features-in-alfresco-share" and more, which talk about the Alfresco calender having a Sync button. However I do not see any such option in calender view of my install base of Alfresco.

I had tried to expose the calender of Alfresco through the iCal feature and was able to see it in my Outlook, however since it is a feed, hence it is non editable in Outlook.

So basically I am looking for a way to have a common calender between Alfresco and Outlook which should be editable and view-able from both the ends

Any help or pointers in this direction would be helpful.

Regards

Hello,

this is a rather tall order for a standard customization. In order to include your Outlook calendar into Alfresco and have it fully editable on both sides (Outlook client and Alfresco Share), you need to implement a whole new set of backend services that can talk to your Exchange server and support all the features of the Outlook calendar you want to expose. You might use the Exchange Web Services API as the basis of such a functionality.

Some partner have already tackled this kind of problem in some way or another. Extensions / integrations in that area are usually available as commercial-only addons to Alfresco since they require a lot of effort to be invested.

We as PRODYNA have developed NABUCCO Groupware to address this, which is currently available as a Community Edition and will be released as Enterprise Edition in the next quarter. The Enterprise Edition will allow read-access as well as creation/manipulation of calendar entries of calendars from Exchange or other groupware systems.

Thanks Axel for these insights

Hey Axel,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. However, the link https://nabucco.prodyna.com/en/groupwareis not working. Did you end up releasing your Enterprise Edition?

Thanks!

The Groupware module received an Enterprise Edition release about half a year after I had posted my reply.

The web site no longer exists because the NABUCCO brand was abandoned a while ago (taking the address with it), with each of the products that were continued receiveing a more individual name. Since I no longer work for PRODYNA, I am not up to speed on what the state of Groupware is today. Though I believe since they stopped being an Alfresco partner and do little business with Alfresco these days, it might just as well have been discontinued.
