Hi! All
I'm a new bee to Linux and Alfresco. I've installed Alfresco according to the guide on the README.txt file and it was successfull; now the problem comes when I have to include OpenOffice features in Alfresco. My Alfresco server is running Fedora Core 5, which comes with OpenOffice2.0.2; and its without Xwindow. I have managed to install Xvfb but when I try to run alfresco it display this message:

[root@alfresco alfresco]# ./alfresco.sh start
Using CATALINA_BASE:   /opt/alfresco/tomcat
Using CATALINA_HOME:   /opt/alfresco/tomcat
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /opt/alfresco/tomcat/temp
Using JRE_HOME:       /usr/java/jdk1.5.0_07/
Using JAVA_OPTS:       -Xms128m -Xmx512m -server -Djava.util.logging.manager=org.apache.juli.ClassLoaderLogManager -Djava.util.logging.config.file=/opt/alfresco/tomcat/conf/logging.properties
Starting OpenOffice service…
/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/program/soffice.bin X11 error: Can't open display:
Set DISPLAY environment variable, use -display option
or check permissions of your X-Server
(See "man X" resp. "man xhost" for details)

Could anybody out there give me some light to what is going on, please.
Thank you in advance!

Hello,

Take a look here:
http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Installing_on_Linux

Also note that there are conversion issues in OpenOffice 2.0.2 that should be fixed in OpenOffice 2.0.3

Thank you Steve,

I followed the guide on the url that you gave me, and now my openoffice startup fine without Xwindow, but there is one other issue that I bumped into. When I set a rule to transform a content in Alfresco, openoffice applications do not appear as options in the drop-down list.

I hope you can make sense of what I'm trying to say.

Thank you again;
Zipho

Is there anybody with an insight to this, its been weeks trying to get openoffice to work with alfresco for document transformation, and it starts fine but as I indicated above, it doesn't get listed in the drop down list.

[root@ecm ]# ps -e
2309 ?   00:00:00 soffice
2328 ?   00:00:00 soffice.bin

Plz help, its kinda urgent……

Hi,

Are you trying to convert to an OpenOffice document type?
If so, these conversions are not yet built into Alfresco.

You could take a look here about how you could add these yourself:
http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Content_Transformations
and
http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Simple_Customisations#Transformation_Mimetype

Hope this helps,

Steve
