Hello i want to install Alfresco 1.4 on a Windows2003 Server. You should download the Alfresco standalone WAR and drop it into your <TOMCAT_HOME>/webapps folder. The rest of the installation steps are the same. For example, your extension config files go in <TOMCAT_HOME>/shared/classes/alfresco/extension.
I already have tomcat on it, so which download do i have to take?
I mean i dont want to have to tomcats installed:-)
And the i would like to know where the difference between Alfresco Community and the Enterprise Edition is?Is it the support or special functions and what kind of functions?Check this link http://www.alfresco.com/products/ecm/comparison/
And whatis the thing with the trail version whats the difference to the Community Version?I mean whats the thing and the 30 day trial?I just dont get it!When i have the 30 trail and install it what the difference to the community Version?Do i have more support or do i get other documentations or tutorials?

1. Unzip alfresco-war-xxxxx.zip to a new directory or folderYou can be up and running by just copying the alfresco.war file to your webapps folder. The other files are some helper files (e.g. to create/remove your mysql user/database for alfresco) and extra files that make your Alfresco deployment more complete. To see a good example of where these files go and how they're being used you can download the Alfresco/Tomcat bundle and see where these files are. Then you can look at the alfresco startup batch file to see how the environment is setup for Alfresco to run. Some important things to know are:
- Copy the alfresco.war file…
When i unzip that then i have more files and folders and i only have to copy the alfresco.war file what about the other unzipped files?
2.Download the MySQL Java Database Connector http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/j/The common\lib folder is in the folder where you installed Tomcat.
- Copy the JAR file into <container>/common/lib or <container>/server/default/lib
Where ist this folder?

i have a new problem:The username and password used to login to the MySQL database are set in <tomcat-home>/shared/classes/alfresco/extension/custom-db-connection.properties. If it's working without you specifying the user then your MySQL installation might be allowing anonymous logins.
after installing it like the txt file says and you helped me is how does alfresco know that it has to connect with mysql?there was nothing about setting passwords to the mysql database and when i start alfresco it works with the mysql database!how does alfresco know? i mean in the background when i start alfresco from the console hsql is being started too.
and then i have a question regarding the war file.i read a little bit but i just dont get it.If you want to make a change that survives WAR explodes then you should put it inside alfresco.war or in the extension folder. Depending on what you're trying to customize you might not be able to simply use the extension folder.
when tomcat starts the war file explodes and makes all the directories in tomcat/webapps/alfresco right?
but then i read all the time that when i want to change a logo for example i can go into the logo folder under alfresco and change it but it should be overwritten everytime i start alfresco because the war file explodes every time or do i understand something wrong?
