Hello,

My appologies, but I was unsure where to place this query.  Moderators, please reassign this inquiry where you see fit.

My name is Scott and I am an information professional working in the pharmaceutical space.  I am somewhat conversant about information technology (IT) but I am by no means a professional.  Think librarian on steriods.  We are using Alfresco Version 3.0, which is installed here, but not terribly well supported.  With Alfresco 3.0, I am trying to establish a folder (i.e. space) architecture based a hierarchical rendition using document types and document subtypes.  In this regard, the team that I am working with has been successful.

However, in order for this hierarchical foldering structure to work effectively, a security (permissions?) model, already developed off-line using a MS Excel spreadsheet, must be implemented.  As you well know, certain content must be protected for reasons of law and compliance.  To date, I have been able to create these groups in Alfresco, based on the model developed in MS Excel, and have applied to these groups permissions as defined by Alfresco out of the box, i.e. Consumer, Contributor, Editor, Collabotastor, and Coordinator.

What I have not been able to do is get the schema to function correctly.

I am unsure as to how "Inherit Parent Space Permissions" actually functions.  Does it do what it says ands force the parents permissions onto all of the children and grandchildren, hierarchically, or does it do something else?

So, after this rather long winded preface, I am trying to apply group based permissions to folders/spaces and do not know how to do it correctly.  Can someone here on this board provide assistance, please?

Many Thanks.

Hi Lawrence,
I am not sure, what you need. You can define rights on a space and force subspaces to inherit these Rules. additionally, you can configure "extra" rules, which add up with the inherited ones. So much so good.

If the roles you mentioned are not enough, you can define your own roles, since the security model is much more detailed than these highlevel roles. Is that what you aimed at ? What does not work with your role assignment ?
