How to integrate a fax/email management software

Hello everyone,

I know that this has been posted on these boards earlier, but I couldn't get exactly as to what I'm looking for.

I'm trying to accomplish document management through fax and emails, and I wanted to know the best way of doing this.
I read out on the other thread that I need to create my own content type, but I would also like to know what open source fax & email management software works well with Alfresco.
I would also appreciate if someone can throw an insight as how this software can be integrated with Alfresco to route documents from faxes/emails to my Alfresco DM. On the top of it, I would like to fire off some actions based on the events happening(how exactly I can leverage the rules feature).

If your fax / email software can save to the file system, you can save directly into Alfresco by mounting the Alfresco repository as a shared drive via CIFS.

Content rules configured will still trigger as files get created  / saved via CIFS.

We have implemented a drag&drop integration in Outlook to Alfresco.
