How to get the Alfresco version number? (I'm not admin)

I just have a user account.
How to get the Alfresco version number?

Reason:
I am writing an upgrade plan, and I need to know which Alfresco is installed now, but I don't have admin access, and I can not access the machine by SSH.

I had the same question and found the answer on this page. I advise to make the version nummer visible in the standard feeter of the page, which currently contains the text "Certified and supported. Alfresco Software Inc. © 2005-2009 All rights reserved."

I tried the solution in Alfresco Share* and it did not work for me (in Alfresco 4.2.c).
Maybe that's useful for someone else:

I found out that clicking on the Logo in the footer in Alfresco Share opens a dialog giving details about the installed Alfresco version
