How to display search results using template?

"Preview in template" option available for content and spaces, but not for search results. Is there way to display search results using custom template within web client (e.g. user performs search, result are displayed as usual, user clicks "Preview/show in template", selects template, custom view of the results is displayed)?

OK, I can execute search (and list results) within template. Any advice on how to get search parameters passed to template?
