How to Create new Roles?

Hi all,

I am new to alfresco..
1.My immediate need is to create a new role and assign some permissions to that role
2. Assign the created role to a user

What are the steps to be followed?

Can anybody help?

Hi,
You find some information about permission here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Security_and_Authentication#Default_Permissions
these default permission are defined iTOMCAT_HOME\webapps\alfresco\WEB-INF\classes\alfresco\model\permissionDefinitions.xml
You should take one of the permissionGroups like 'Editor' as a template for your own permissionGroup.

I am also trying to create a new custom role ("document owner") and assign it to users.

I have followed the instructions to edit permission_definitions.xml
but if I then "View Details" on an file in a space, click "manage content users" > Invite,
I do not see my new custom role in the list of roles.
How do I get it to appear there?
Do I have to edit a web-client-custom-config or sthg as well?
