How to create a space in Alfresco 4.2f?

In versions previous to version 4.2f of Alfresco, a menu drop down button existed called create within the work area that provided access to the create space menu item. I have Alfresco 4.2f running, have looked under every admin and user menu and button under dashboards and the sites themselves that I can find and cannot find any such functionality in version 4.2f. I have looked within the sample site that comes with the distribution and have made my own site, but no luck.

I realize this must be incredibly obvious, since spaces are a fundamental element of the system, but I can't determine how this is done and the docs aren't helping. The docs just describe how to create a space under an existing space, but I don't recognize anything in particular as a space, although there are of course folders with files under them in the document library, but these don't seem to be spaces, nor does it seem possible to change them into spaces or create spaces under them. Can some kind soul point me to exactly how one creates a new space in 4.2f. Any concrete example should get me going in the right direction.

If I have posted this in the wrong forum, could someone please direct me to the correct forum to post this question.

Thanks.

Hello,

as far as I understand your question, you are now using the Alfresco Share client and are looking for the "Create Space" action that you are used to from Alfresco Explorer.
In Alfresco Share, you can create new folders (what the Alfresco Explorer called "spaces") both in the "Repository" page as well as the "Document Library" page of a site. When the user has sufficient privileges, he can use "Create" => "Create folder" to create a new folder / space.
Please be aware that the title for the "Document Library" page may be different for each site as users are able to define a custom name for it to appear in the navigation toolbar (as far as I know it is called "Project Library" in the sample site).

The "create space" action in Alfresco Explorer should be unchanged since this client has little to no active development (it has been deprecated).

Regards
Axel

Thanks, that helped tremendously! As a brand new user who is evaluating Alfresco for company use, I didn't realize that there are currently two different clients available where the explorer client is deprecated. When I first brought the Alfresco Webapp up using a Bitnami VM, it jumps to the share client when you select the Bitnami app link, so I never saw the link to the explorer client, didn't know how to get to it and all older docs and examples describe the older client so I was pretty lost. Through the latest 4.2 community docs, I found that the deprecated explorer client is accessed via http://yourHostSmiley Tongueort/alfresco (which I did successfully access) and the share client is accessed via http://yourHostSmiley Tongueort/share.
