Please use CMIS to upload and download files to and from Alfresco.
See this post for resources related to CMIS.

Thanks Jeff
I have downloaded Alfresco SDK and imported into Eclipse. Can you tell me the sample project name for uploading files?

Sure, there is one here:
http://ecmarchitect.com/archives/2012/01/09/1509
That one covers using CMIS against Alfresco on-premise. The tutorial is primarily about custom content models, but it does include CMIS examples.
And there is one here that covers CMIS against Alfresco in the Cloud:
https://code.google.com/p/alfresco-api-java-examples/
Additionally, I'll take the opportunity for a shameless plug–Manning has a book on CMIS and Apache Chemistry which is now available through its early access program and should be in print this Spring. The book covers Java (as well as several other languages) and Apache Chemistry and includes a sample web app built with CMIS.
