How is indexing done for OpenOffice (.odt) documents?

I am having some troubles with text searches and OpenOffice documents. I have documents containing forms controls and the content of these controls seems not to be indexed.

So I am searching how to change/customize the indexing of these documents. I downloaded the source code but it is hard to dig into all this without some guidance.

If any body as an example or can tell me which part of the code I should look to understand the indexing stuff that would be greatly appreciated.

Open Office documents are converted to text using the Open Office libraries themselves - so anything missing is problably any issue with those libraries. Alfresco uses various 3rd party transformation services and libraries to convert documents such as PDF, Office and OpenOffice formats.
