How is content stored?

Is the content: files, discussions, etc all stored in a database? We want to be able to export all the content of a folder and its subfolders in the file structure in their original format. So the content can be viewed without Alfresco or an SQL application.

So copy it from one of the file/folder projections.

No need to worry about internal implementation details.
