Hi All,

I was trying to find through the forums and also the wiki; if their is a way to properly upgrade Alfresco to a newer version? Currently all I have in mind to do is to copy the share site contents to a new install of the newer version. But right now I am working with Alfresco Labs 3 and would like to upgrade to either 3.1 or 3.2 preview? Any help would be grateful. Also I am already running Mysql for the AL3 version so I don't have to worry about the 3.2 and its incompatibility with Derby.

The official line is here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/General_Upgrade_Process

If you're just upgrading to a preview release, possibly the easier way to is to backup *everything* - i.e. Tomcat, alf_data folders, database. Test the backup! Then shutdown Tomcat, remove the .war file and deployed webapps/alfresco folder and drop the new .war file in. Alfresco will automatically upgrade the database schema and run any patches required.

Thanks,
Mike

Thank you for the quick reply Mike; I will try that out right now and post the outcome once I am done!

So I was under the impression that the Labs 3.1 was a newer update but; after going through the process (which did work thanks Mike!) it loads the same core, it still says the server is running on 3.0.0 (Stable 1526). Is this the newest final version? The download site (http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Download_Labs) says its 3.1 final but still takes you to 3.0 Stable.

There was some version numbering madness that went on briefly around the v3.0 and v3.1 releases. It's now calmed down and reverted to normal, but it's entirely possible that build is labelled as v3.0 rather than v3.1.

Note that there are two versions reported in the startup sequence: the original (pre-upgrades) version and the current version.
