Hi!

I have created one customized site based on out of the box WQS finance site. Now i need to export this site and import the same to another machine.

How can i do it as i could not find any export/import option in share/wqs?

I'm going to assume you are not trying to move content through an editorial process, which is probably better suited for the transfer/replication service. Instead, it sounds like maybe you've developed a WQS site on one repo and you need to pick it up and move it permanently to another repo. In that case, export/import is what you need.

A WQS site is made up of good ole content objects in the DM repository which means you can use the same tools you'd work with to do other types of operations on the repo. In this case, for an export/import you can use ACP (see this page on the wiki).

Unfortunately, ACP export/import has not yet been ported to Share so you'll have to use the Explorer client to do this. The high level steps are:

1. Log in to Explorer as an admin
2. Navigate to your site (your site lives in a folder under Sites)
3. Once inside your site folder, click the admin console, then click Export
4. Specify a name for the ACP, like "myExportedSite"
5. Pick a destination. Your user home folder is a good choice. This is where the ACP will be saved to.
6. IMPORTANT: Make sure both the "Include children" and "Include this space" checkboxes are selected.
7. Click OK

Eventually, an ACP file will show up in the destination you selected. Download the file, then do the import:

1. Log in to Explorer on the target repo
2. Navigate to the Sites folder
3. Click the admin console, then click Import
4. Browse for the ACP you downloaded to your local machine
5. Click OK

Voila.

Obviously, if you have made any template customizations, rendition configs, custom pages, etc., those all live in your WQS WAR and you'll need to move those over by hand.

Hi Jeff!

Its always a pleasure to hear from you!!!

Now I have followed the same steps in 3.4.6 ent as well as community versions but no success in any way.

I am getting lots of error like this:

Finally not able to migrate. Is it due to different versions (enterprise vs community) or due to some node are not able to be migrated at all such as authorities or roles etc or with 3.4.6 version, it is not possible to migrate share/wqs sites at all?

Can you please help.

Your Enterprise/Community comment is confusing/worrying me. Let's back up a second. You have created a WQS site on one machine. What version of Alfresco is that running?

Now, you want to pick up and move that site as a one-time migration to a target machine. What version of Alfresco is the target machine running?

Do you have a functional installation of WQS on the target machine?

If the following assumptions are true, this should work:
- You are running the same edition and version on source and target.
- Your WQS setup on both the source and target are working fine.
- You have not made any customizations to the WQS web app, or you have but they have been moved over and tested.
- You exported the entire Share site as an ACP and imported it properly into the Sites folder

Can you clarify the version issue and validate these assumptions?

Hi

I have created a WQS site using 3.4.e community version on Win 7 but i want to migrate it to Enterprise 3.4.6 setup RHEL 5.5.Also, I have installed & functional WQS on both machines prior to migration.

- You are running the same edition and version on source and target.
@ I was not running same edition initially but later i had enterprise 3.4.6 on both machines but then also migration did not work.
- Your WQS setup on both the source and target are working fine.
@ Yes.
- You have not made any customizations to the WQS web app, or you have but they have been moved over and tested.
@ I have customized wqs to create a separate war named mywqs & functional mywqs war was moved to target machine & tested, resulting in error & my alfresco got corrupt.
- You exported the entire Share site as an ACP and imported it properly into the Sites folder
@ Yes but when i am trying to import acp, i am getting errors about missing nodes as mentioned earlier.

Sill i am not getting around it. Is there any way i can do it?

Please take a look at this thread on the forum that I think is directly related to what you're asking. Does it help?
