Has amp been deprecated in Alfresco 4?

I have heard that in Alfresco 4 packaging extensions as AMPs is still supported but that there is a new way to package extensions and in later releases AMP will be dropped. I cant seem to find any documentation about this but I can swear I read that some place and a co worker things the same. Is this true and what is the name of the new method or packaging alfresco extensions?

No AMPs are not deprecated in Alfresco 4.

A somewhat easier to handle .jar format is also supported.

There are examples in the "Share extras" projects (just Google "Share extras") and also if you follow our blogs at blogs.alfresco.com, specifically Kevin Roast, David Draper and myself.

Ok great. I have a basic dev environment setup with amp that seems to work ok I will probably stick with for now. But the jar thing sounds interesting. Thanks for both of your input.
