google docs?

I was under the understanding that the latest builds of 3.3 support editing of documents on-line with google docs.  Is there something I have to configure to be able to say directly edit a word doc thru Share?

Thanks.

Hi,

since there is a global login for the google docs integration, this implies all users check out and edit using the same google docs account.
So UserA checks out document A, UserB checks out document B. But UserB is logged in to the same account, and can therefor browse and see all other checked out documents, and potentially edit them?

I may be thinking google docs as I am used to work with it, login via web client. But this is by some google api, and bringing up the editor for the common account doesn't log you in to the google document list/browser?

There is no way to set individual google docs accounts?

Loftux asked this question early on in this thread and I didn't see anyone address it.
That's the same question that I have that I'm trying to find an answer to.
The tutorial PDF for Alfresco/google docs suggests that once the document is in Goggle Docs you can invite people to collaborate on it and ultimately check it back into Alfresco.
When you navigate to the document in Google Docs, things like gmail and the calendar of that admin account are all available.  I can also click on the Documents link and see all other documents for this admin user.  It seems like once a document is uploaded into GD any user would be able to browse any other document that had been uploaded regardless of the permission settings in Alfresco, since this is a shared account.  This doesn't seem like a good idea.
Am I missing something?

The way it currently works is that when you check out to google docs:
-The document is created with the "admin" google docs account (googledocs.username in alfresco-global.properties)
-Ownership in google docs is transferred from admin google docs account to google account (as set in profile) for user doing checkout
–>Bug here, this transfer of ownership breaks checkin, as admin google account no longer can delete document, fixed in enterprise http://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-3066
-Alfresco iterates all users that is in the local ACL (has permissions to the document), and in google docs gives them permission to view/edit.
–>Bug here, http://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-7657 It only works to set permissions in google docs for one user, this is possibly a bug in the google docs api. Since the first user in the ACL may not be you, you cannot edit the checked out document
–>Enhancement request filed http://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-7661 I think it is wrong to share in google docs to all users that are members in a site. This is what happens today, and this number of users can be quite large. And google api doesn't allow you to turn of notifications. So everyone gets notified that you are working on your doc

Check out my bug reports, vote for them if you want a change.

Yikes!
Thanks for being responsive.
It does sound rather unusable in the current state.  I thought that this was a major new feature of 3.3, hence the 3.3g release name.  It doesn't sound like it is stable yet.

The way I guessed that it would work is that the file would have been directly moved into the user Google account.  That user could then invite whomever they want to collaborate on it via Google Docs, even if they are not members of the Alfresco site, and when they are done, the user could check the file back in.

Sending autonotifications to people is a nice idea, but sending it to any one with permissions to see it is definitely not a good idea.

I fixed this so that the document is now only shared from the Google Docs system user to the users gmail account who is the Alfresco working copy owner (and not all on ACL).

This seem to work, I can now use Google Docs successfully. You still get a notification, but only for yourself.

I've attached a patch to http://issues.alfresco.com/jira/browse/ALF-7661 if someone would like to test this out compiling you own version of alfresco.war

FINALLY GOT THIS WORKING!

It was as we both thought Loftux, it was the setting to use the new editor but strangely on the master account and not the account that was doing the editing??? anyhow i am now a happy lad!  It's slightly worrying that the new changes to Google have had this effect.  Is there any plans to look at these issues, should I submit a bug fix?

Many Thanks
Matt

MInd sharing how you got this working? we're using google apps for domains and can't get this working either.
