'From' email field incorrect

Hello,

I'm not exactly sure that this goes to the workflow forum, but I really think so.
I have a workflow deployed and on certain transition, I send e-mails from javascript.

I always set the mail.parameters.from = "something@mydomain.com"  (I put the actual, existing e-mail address here, the same that's set in custom-repostirory.properties).

My problem is that the "From" field in the actual e-mail that gets send out is set to the email address of the workflow initiator.

This causes the problem with e-mails - some of them don't go out because of the SMTP 550 error:
class com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPAddressFailedException: 550 relay not permitted

Can I set the "from" fields in the outgoing e-mails properly somehow? If not, can I override ALL outgoing e-mails with my default e-mail?

Thanks, Seth. Is there a JIRA ticket or something?

Oh, thanks. Found a workaround.

Can you share your workaround? I'm up against the same issue myself…

Oh, we just set alfresco to send mail from the local server.
In custom-repository.properties, we now have:

mail.host=localhost
mail.port=25
mail.username=
mail.password=

There is still a problem that you can't effectively specify the From field: ie if you put it to something like:
mail.parameters.from = "someone@domain.com";
this parameter will just be checked, but then disregarded. So the mail will end up being sent from the e-mail of the currently logged in person (user).

I remember reading at the time that the other option is to locate this method in the mailer code and correct it, but for now I didn't have the time (or a bigger business need, while we're at it). I don't know where I've read it, though. Could be here at the forum, or maybe at stack overflow.
