Frequency of community versions?

Hi,

I am fairly new to alfresco and just set up a dms based on it. I have installed the community version 3.2r, as Iearned that a final 3.2. enterprise was released recently, I wonder if there will be a final community version in some time as well? I know that there are nightly builds, but also releases for community, so will the next version than be 3.3r1?

Regards,
Rudolf

The next Community version will be v3.3 in about 8-10 weeks or so. It'll include everything that went into 3.2 Enterprise (apart from the Enterprise-only features!).

Thanks,
Mike

As it is named 3.3., I assume that it will include 3.2, but also some new 3.3. features? So speaking in terms of stability, this would be one of the more stable or less stable versions?

If I would use a nightly build from today, would the final 3.2. also be included there?

Regards, Rudolf

The nightly build is very unstable at the moment due to all the merges going on, and the spring surf work.  In fact it is a while since all the unit tests passed.    You should probably only use a nightly build if you are developing new code.     It will settle down and freeze as the next release approaches.

To clarify somewhat: the nightly builds at http://dev.alfresco.com/downloads/nightly/dist/ are only updated if ALL the unit tests pass on the active build server.

So whilst Mark is correct above that HEAD is quite unstable, the "nightly" builds are more so. Having said that, we would recommend you only use official Community releases for anything your users might be relying on.

Thanks,
Mike
