Folder won't open

I have an sub- folder inside my repository that I can't open.  There are ten files in it and I can access each file individually through the workstore but whenever I try to open the folder it hangs with a "loading document library" message and just spins and spins.   I checked the error logs but there is no error message and i checked through firebug and I don't see any errors being generated there either. I checked the permissions and it inherits them from its parent. There is another folder inside this same directory and I can open that one just fine no problems.  It's driving me crazy, and ideas would be much appreciated.

are you able to open that via CIFS or webdev?

I can't open the folder through any means. I figured out that it was a certain file in the folder because when I moved that file into a different folder that folder would not open and the folder the file had been in did open. I am not sure though what was wrong with the file to cause this behavior because after i deleted it and reuploaded it the folder was able to open fine. I made no changes to the file so it was the same version that had been uploaded the first time

So the problem is solved?
Have you checked in the logs? during upload of  that file you may have some error logs.

The issue still persists, it seems sort of random.  Folders will just stop opening and won't work. I can still access the files and what I do is go and dowload the files, delete the files one by one until the folder is able to be opened.  That leads me to what I call a "culprit" file because it's the one that was preventing the folder from opening. However if I reupload the downloaded file, the folder is fine, it opens with no problems.  I really don't know what could be wrong with the files to cause this type of behavior.

Have you observed any similarity in the culprit files?
Like type of files causing the problem? Or are you getting any error in the logs?

The files are all pdfs, but that seems to be the only common denominator, however it only happens with some PDFs, a small minority, not the majority of PDFS. At first I thought they might be password protected but none of them are. The logs show no errors because when I click on the link nothing fires, the only differene I see is that in folders that work, a call is made to /share/proxy/folder name but that call is never made on the folders that don't work.

I had the same issue (Alfresco 4.0.e). For me the problem was on pdf metadata. The title was too long (120 characters).
If your problem is the same on your error logs you should see some messages about lenght.
