Flash Player on Linux

I am using OpenSuse 11 and testing the 3.2 Preview2 of Alfresco.  As part of the original instructions it talks about installing Flash Player.  Had some questions about this was hoping someone would answer:

1. What is Flash Player used for on the server?
2. Do you just install it on your UNIX server and Alfresco will just use it?  Don't have to tell it where to find the executable?

The Flash player is for the clients. The server needs pdf2swf from the swftools project in order to transform PDFs to a browser-compatible format.
