External Content like it was residing in Alfresco

Hi All,

I am trying to figure out if is possible to have external content, from an external system, as if it was residing locally within Alfresco

I guess that I would have to create a new content type in my custom model that holds this kind of content, with a property such an URL or so pointing to the external item. At the same time this artifact has to be searchable by its metadata so a mechanism to provide them has to be created (share form, workflow, whatever)

At this point I don't know if this requirement is a crazy idea or doable so I would be grateful with any idea or approach of the community…

Thanks for everything, I was able to manage this by myself at the end. Quite straightforward

For example in RM you can manage external things like aeroplanes or tanks or ships.   On the alfresco side of things it deals with the metadata for the object and then there's some sort of link like an asset id or a registration number.
