Hi!
We're using Turkish characters. Database is configured according to utf8.
There is no problem about file names. We can use Turkish characters.

On the other hand, when we create content with Turkish characters, some characters transform into ? character.

Yet, when the content is updated and saved again, there is no problem about Turkish characters. User can see Turkish characters instead of ? character.

What is the problem?

Assuming you're using MySQL database, you may try editing the jdbc url:
db.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/alfresco?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf-8‍

Well the content itself is not stored in the database so that wouldn't be the issue here.

The content goes on the native filing system, the metadata in a database.
You could think of it as creating a fully indexed filing system with lots of metadata,
but using each component to do what it's good at: filing system to handle content,
database to lookup data, etc.  Zimbra takes a rather similar approach to building a
mailstore.

Assuming you're using MySQL database, you may try editing the jdbc url:
db.url=jdbc:mysql://localhost/alfresco?useUnicode=true&characterEncoding=utf-8‍

I tried this on Alfresco 2.10 with MySql on Ubuntu and can't start Alfresco!!!

Any thoughts?

Without having any more details (please post errors from the log to save us all guessing!) - did you create the database using utf-8 encoding?

Hi ivana,

I'm guessing here, but I imagine that either you have not created the database with a
utf-8 encoding (or set it to use one) or else your MySQL is not set up to communicate in
utf-8.

I'm afraid I can't remember off the top of my head whether MySQL permits you to change
this encoding on an already existing database instance, or whether you would need to
dump the database and reload it.

You might find it helpful to look at the  ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET command in MySQL
(<URL: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/alter-database.html >) and the
'character_set_server' option in  /etc/my.cnf

Personally, I always make sure that the databases are all set to use utf-8 from the start.

Hi!
I am not so familiar with MySQL and i got completed database.
I tried link above(http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/alter-database.html) and didn't work.
Then i tried http://forums.mysql.com/read.php?103,2574,25131#msg-25131 and had no luck.

Is there anything that I can try next? (dump, clean database with utf8…)


I set
