I don't know if this is a bug or an intended feature.
When User A checks out a file, a 'Working Copy' is generated and the original file is locked. In the web client, User B is not able to edit the original file nor the 'Working Copy', which makes sense. However, User B can edit the 'Working Copy' on the CIFS server. Is this a bug? It doesn't make sense for User B to be able to edit and save the file on the CIFS server.
Thanks,
Alan

Hi
B must have permissions to edit the checked out doc.
Anyone with suitable permissions will be able to edit the doc.
The CIFS behaviour is correct.
The checked out doc is will inherit permissions from the space into which it was checked out.
If it were checked out to a folder where B does not have permissions they would not be able to access it.
The UI should have the same behaviour.
I will take a look.
Regards
Andy

I've tried it again. It turns out that User B is able to edit the 'Working Copy' on the CIFS server, but not on the web client. There is no edit icon for User B.

I was using the 1.4 Preview on Windows 2003 Server. I've upgraded to 1.4 RC1 and still the same issue. User B is able to check in the working copy though, you just can't edit it 'inline'.

Hello Paul,
According to the bug report, you're point of view is that the CIFS behavior is correct but the Web client should also allow the edition of the working copy?
From a user perspective, it's probably expected that only the person that checked out the document can edit the working copy, while the original is locked. Otherwise, there are cases where B will overwrite pending changes of A (or is handled at the CIFS level?).
