Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to finding some step-by-step instructions on how to configure Alfresco so that I can edit Microsoft Office documents (Word, Excel, etc) online within Alfresco, rather than having to download documents and edit them offline each time.

I am using Alfresco Community version 3.0, running on an Ubuntu Linux server. Any links to articles or documentation on how to do this would be helpful.

Thanks.

I'm sure that some people have been able to achieve the editing of Microsoft Office documents online within Alfresco. I understand that you need to install the SharePoint protocol for this and do some other configuration to enable it to work. But I was just wondering if anyone knows what steps to take to make this work.

It's not supported in v3.0 - best updating to v3.2 (right now, I can't remember which of our temporarily mad version numbers relates to v3.1)

You'll need: the SharePoint module installed, plus you'll have to access the Document Library with Internet Explorer (pref. v7.0 or v8.0) in order to activate the "Edit Online" action for Office documents.

Thanks,
Mike

Our development environment is Community version 3.0, however our production environment will be Enterprise version 3.1. Will the feature of editing Microsoft Office documents online be supported in Enterprise version 3.1?

Mike,
Edit online is broken in several ways in v3.2 and there are some fixes in enterprise version. Can you merge those to head? Office 2007 is broken, NTLM passthru, and even when I manage to open document for online edit in office 2003 I can't save it back to Alfresco.

I've installed Alfresco Enterprise Edition 3.1 and I have also installed the SharePoint protocol. How do I now get the action of 'Edit Online' to appear next to my list of actions for a content item?

Thanks.

Make sure you're using MSIE and are trying to edit Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents.

Thanks,
Mike

Yeah I am using Internet Explorer 7 and trying to edit a Word and Excel document.

I can see the 'Edit Online' action for MS Office documents via the Alfresco Share interface, but I cant seem to see the 'Edit Online' action via the Alfresco Web Client interface. Is there something in the install or configuration of Alfresco that I may have missed out in order to see the action via the Web Client?

Also, is it possible to see the 'Edit Online' action for MS Office documents via the Alfresco Web Client interface, or is it only possible to see the 'Edit Online' action via the Alfresco Share interface?

Thanks.

I'm having some trouble with this and I couldn't find any reported bugs. I'm using latest version from HEAD with vti amp installed. When I try to edit online office document it normally opens a new window with that URL on port 7070 and it offers to open or save document. I click open and document normally opens (read-write, no problems there) in excel 2007 but when I make some changes and try to save it it just stuck for a few seconds then brings up a "Document not saved" message. I've enabled full debug for sharepoint protocol but nothing shows up.

It's a Vista SP2 + Office 2007 + IE 8 client machine. Also, worth to mention is that passthru NTLM SSO is enabled and I'm pretty much confident this worked fine with basic Alfresco authentication although I didn't try it lately.

Any ideas?
