Does Alfresco support Federated repositories?

Hi,

Does Alfresco (ECM or WCM) support Federated repositories?
I came to know that Alfresco supports Federated Search, but whereas I am specifically interested to know more about Federated repositories:

I came to know that the Federated Repository has not been implemented yet as per the WIKI document here: http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/Alfresco_Repository_Architecture  Option #5, but not sure about recent releases!

Any updates/comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kumar

We don't support true federated repositories.

However, in case you are interested in them in relation to scalability, with the way clustering works, I believe you can get somewhat close.   You can have a multi-node cluster that replicates into a central file store.  when a node that doesn't have a specific file is asked to serve that file, it uses the shared store to pull in that file and then serve it.

We have some customers running clusters of up 7 nodes, and upgrading to 11 soon.

Has anyone had any luck using Alfresco with a homegrown Federated repository?   Is this even possible?   We require a dual-master style replication between two distant sites.  Each site must run a full-copy of the Alfresco CMS and users must have full functionality from both sites with replication/federation between the two repositories.   Any ideas on how this could be done in Alfresco?   Thanks in advance!
